It's a shark spy!

For my 3D modeling class we had to create our own character to model. I don't think I've ever had such a freeing assignment as just "create your own character". THIS IS EXCITING. I thought I'd share what I got.

The first 2 drawings are from other stories I thought of a while back. The guy with the arms coming out of his back has a, uh, complicated story, so I'll spare the details. The pregnant looking lady was based around a woman "who only has super powers when she's pregnant". I thought that was funny enough to mention here, but the kinda funny like "why did I even write this idea down?!"

Then I thought "OKAY WHAT IF... there was a shark. And he was a secret agent like James Bond." So I went from there! I tried other sea creatures (haha blob fish...) but the shark was my favorite.

I ended up going with the design on the 4th page (the large upper left drawing). In case you're wondering, he smokes a cigar in his left set of gills, and he has a remora for a bowtie (which he occasionally talks to when he has troubles). I'll give more backstory later.

Any character design feedback or suggestions or praise would be appreciated, I don't have to turn this guy around till Thursday.

P.S. All 3 of my art classes this semester want me to create my own character. HOW AWESOME IS THAT...

"Tripwire" in the works

Telly model sheet

Last summer I became a member of the Armed Wish a Camera Fellowship, part of the LA based organization Visual Communications. They have been helping me make a short film through workshops and monetary means. My short film is animated, and it will premiere in the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival in May this year. (If you're reading this before May, you should totally come to watch it.)

I'm working with a bunch of awesome artists from CSUFullerton, so this is more or less a CSUF production. Our goal is to have the film finished by the end of March, but it probably won't reach the web until many months later, after it goes through the whole "film festival run" (however that works).

The animated short is called "Tripwire", and it explores the imaginary scenario of Alexander Graham Bell creating a tiny messenger robot instead of a telephone. To be honest we don't have a whole lot of concept art, but I'll post what I can on this blog (seeing as how my team objected to the idea of an actual Tripwire production blog :( ). (Maybe I have an obsession with blogs, I'm pretty certain I've made more than 10.)

Our main character is named "Telly", here's his run cycle I just finished!

Look out for the film this Spring. More updates to come later!

Robot cape

More robots should wear capes. So I drew this quick thing!

I might redo this piece later, I'm not completely satisfied with it.

Been meaning to draw him since I saw the movie. I like the design of Tintin's outfit... well mainly just the fluffy pants.

I think I've been creatively frustrated lately. I've been spending all my time on this one project (my animated short which I'll talk about later), I don't have time to draw or make other stuff I want to! Today was the first time I had some time to draw (albeit at work), and I guess I just decided to render someone else's intellectual property? Buh I gotta be more creative.

Yknow what. I've been too lazy lately. I WILL MAKE MORE TIME.
